A Wednesday the stats got wrong

It's 8:15 on a Wednesday morning in New York. You've done your prep.

NQ gapped down overnight, and your Edgeful report says a gap down on this weekday fills 75% of the time. The IB stats line up. The plan is simple: buy the 9:30 open, ride the fill, done before lunch.

At 8:30, CPI prints. A tenth above consensus. A tenth above the highest forecast any bank on the Street put out.

By the open the gap is twice as big. You buy it anyway, because the number said 75%. The fill never comes. Your stop goes in the second candle.

Here's the part that stings: the stat wasn't wrong. Three out of four of those sessions really did fill. It just had no idea what day it was. And neither did you.

That's the whole MRKT vs Edgeful debate in one trade. Edgeful knows what usually happens. MRKT knows what's happening, and why. On the days that actually move your P&L, only one of those helps.

MRKT vs Edgeful at a glance: what $50 a month actually buys

At almost the same monthly price, Edgeful buys you a library of what price did in the past. MRKT buys you a live macro desk: flows, bank forecast ranges, decoded news, event replay and much more, every tool in one plan.

Put the two plans next to each other and the price tag is basically identical. $49.99 a month for MRKT, $49 for Edgeful Essential. What sits behind the paywall is not.

With Edgeful, your $49 buys a library. More than 150 reports on how often patterns played out: gap fills, opening range breakouts, initial balance breaks, engulfing candles.

With MRKT, $49.99 gets you a real-time macro trading edge, with live market insights and constantly updated bias across gold, indices, FX, crypto, and oil as the macro picture evolves.

On top of that: headlines decoded in seconds, six months of Fed and CPI days you can replay bar by bar and much more.

One is a record of the market. The other is a read of it.

9 things MRKT does that Edgeful doesn't

Edgeful is built on historical price statistics, so everything it shows is a description of past sessions. These 12 MRKT features work on the session in front of you: what's driving it, who's behind it and how the last identical event traded.

1. Shows which way the money leans on every candle

Smart Money Flows puts a green and red line on your chart, scored on every 30-minute candle. For example on Gold it reads the markets that move it (the dollar, 2Y, 10Y and real yields, oil, stocks, bitcoin and fear) and tells you if, together, they're supporting price or pressing on it. Edgeful can tell you a setup's hit rate. It can't tell you who's pushing price right now.

2. Shows The Flip as it happens

On the Sep 16 FOMC, Gold's flows read +16 before the decision and −32 an hour after. You see the moment control changes sides, on the candle where it changed, instead of finding out three stop-outs later.

3. Measures every release against every bank

Consensus is one number. MRKT shows you the bank forecasts, the highest and lowest estimates, and flags surprises the second they hit.

On Sep 16, US Retail Sales printed at 1.2%, beating every bank's forecast. MRKT caught it instantly, while the Playbook helps you understand what each outcome could mean for the market and prepare your trade before the data drops.

4. Backtests the fundamentals, not just the pattern

Event Replay drops you on the bar before any FOMC, CPI, PCE or Jackson Hole and lets you step forward candle by candle, up to 10x speed, with the flows reading each bar as it arrives and never seeing the next. Edgeful's backtests average a pattern across hundreds of days. Replay shows you how this exact kind of day actually traded.

5. Decodes a headline before the candle closes

A headline arrives from the wire, MRKT reads it against the calendar and the price reaction, and the decoded version lands on your screen in seconds, with what it means for your markets. No more digging through three tabs and a group chat while the candle runs.

6. Tags the tone of the news

News Flow sorts live headlines into stories and tags each one by tone: hawkish or dovish, escalation or de-escalation, with 30-day trackers for Fed tone and wars. You see the narrative shifting before the chart confirms it.

7. Answers "why is this moving?" with sources

Ask MRKT is a research desk, not a chatbot. It reads the same live headlines, calendar, central bank data and price the rest of MRKT runs on, and every answer cites where it came from. Tap any candle and ask what happened. Edgeful AI answers questions about Edgeful's reports.

8. Teaches you the macro while you trade

Every headline, print and bias card has a Teach button that walks the chain from the news to your chart in plain English, and "More simply" until it clicks. It all runs in 27 languages, explanations included, not just the menus.

9. Tracks Trump in real time

The Trump Tracker shows Trump's live schedule and headlines, so you know when the next market-moving appearance is before it hits your position. It's free.

Why Edgeful's stats lose on news days

Edgeful's numbers are base rates: what a pattern did on average across hundreds of past sessions, most of them quiet. On a red folder day the macro driver overrides the average. A CPI print outside every bank forecast doesn't care what Wednesdays usually do, and that's exactly when MRKT earns its money.

Think about where a 75% actually comes from. It's a few hundred sessions stacked together. Most of them were ordinary days: no tier-one data, no Fed speaker, no surprise headline. The pattern played out because nothing got in its way.

Now drop that 75% into a CPI morning. The day it's being applied to looks nothing like the days it was built from. The number is still printed on your screen with the same confidence. It just isn't describing your market anymore.

This is the split between a chart trader and a macro trader. The chart trader asks where: where's the IB high, where's the gap, how far does the opening range usually run. The macro trader asks why: why is gold bid with yields up, why did that candle rip, why did the "75% setup" die.

The same Wednesday, run through MRKT

Rewind to 8:15. Before you've formed a plan, the calendar is already showing you CPI at 8:30, with the bank forecast, the lowest bank forecast and the highest. The playbook underneath spells out what a print above that highest number has meant for NQ, not just for the dollar. You know the size of the risk before you've picked a level.

At 8:30 the number lands above every bank. MRKT decodes the headline in seconds, while the candle that's reacting is still open, and the playbook lights up where the print sat. You're not guessing what it means. You're reading it.

By 8:45, the question is whether the money is leaning into the move or about to fade it. Smart Money Flows answer that on the chart: the line is deep red and getting redder. That gap-down fill you were planning to buy? The flows are telling you nobody big is buying it with you.

And if something still doesn't add up, you tap the candle. Ask MRKT tells you what moved it and cites the print and the headlines behind the answer.

You never take the trade. Same stat on your screen, same 75%, completely different morning.

Edgeful gives you a probability. MRKT tells you whether that probability applies today. Your setup says where. The flows say why now.

How MRKT helps you win more trades than Edgeful

MRKT wins you trades mostly by keeping you out of the bad ones. It flags when the conditions behind a setup have changed: before the print, at the print and in the candles after. That window is where most retail and prop firm accounts get hurt, and it's exactly where an average can't help.

Most traders think winning more means finding better entries. Look at your last ten losses, though. How many were bad setups, and how many were decent setups taken on the wrong day, into the wrong headline, against money you couldn't see?

That second group is where MRKT works. Before every red folder release, the calendar shows the full bank range, so you know when a print could flip your bias and it's time to size down or sit out. Edgeful's report reads exactly the same on CPI day as it does on a dead Wednesday afternoon.

When the number does hit, MRKT pushes you to trade the Repricing instead of the first spike. You measure the surprise against the institutional range, then trade what the market actually does with it. The first candle is noise. The repricing is the trade.

The last piece is preparation. With Event Replay you can walk through the last six months of FOMC, CPI and PCE days, bar by bar, with the flows. The next Fed day stops being the first time you've seen one trade.

Free resources: MRKT gives you tools, Edgeful gives you guides

MRKT gives away five live tools you can open every trading day, no card needed: a full macro masterclass with a verifiable certificate, the economic calendar, the Trump Tracker, the COT report and the Currency Strength Index. Edgeful's free resources are mostly guides and strategy playbooks, plus a weekly newsletter and a risk calculator.

The biggest one first. The Complete Macro Trading Framework is a free six-episode masterclass, about 116 minutes in total, presented by MRKT's CEO Nilabh Anand. It starts where most traders are stuck, with why price action alone never tells the full story, then works through the four forces behind every market, why good news can crash it, how the Fed moves gold, stocks and the dollar, four macro setups, and a complete daily routine.

It's built like a game, not a lecture. Pass the quiz after each episode and you climb a seven-rank ladder. Pass all six and you earn a Certified Pro Macro Trader certificate with your name, a unique code and a public verification page you can put on LinkedIn. Episode 1 doesn't even ask you to sign up.

Then there are the tools you'll actually open every day. The free Economic Calendar shows every release live, with the actual, forecast and prior, plus a playbook for the release currency. The Trump Tracker follows Trump's live schedule and headlines, so the next market-moving appearance doesn't catch you mid-trade.

The COT Report ranks 17 futures markets against three years of CFTC data, flags who's crowded long or short, and flips between large specs and fund managers in one click. The Currency Strength Index shows the strongest and weakest currency, live.

MRKT's free tools are tools you can open Monday morning and trade with them without ever paying.

MRKT vs Edgeful side by side

MRKT covers every part of the macro read that Edgeful leaves out: flows, bank ranges, decoded news, fundamental replay and a sourced AI. Edgeful's one clear edge is automated algo execution, and that costs $299 a month.

Read down that list and the pattern is obvious. Almost every line that matters on a news day sits on MRKT's side.

So who should switch? If you trade gold, indices, FX or crypto anywhere near CPI, NFP, FOMC or a headline-heavy week, MRKT is the better tool. Same if you keep getting stopped out by candles you can't explain, or you're on a prop firm account where one red folder release can end the challenge.

FAQ

Is MRKT better than Edgeful?

Yes, for traders who trade around economic data and headlines. Edgeful shows how often a pattern worked in past sessions; MRKT shows what's driving price now, where every bank forecast the release, and whether the money backs the move, for about the same $50 a month.

What's the best Edgeful alternative in 2026?

MRKT. It costs the same as Edgeful Essential ($49.99 vs $49 a month) and adds what a statistics platform can't: Smart Money Flows, bank forecast ranges, decoded headlines, event replay and an AI that cites its sources.

Is Edgeful worth it?

Only if you trade one fixed intraday model like ORB or IB on index futures and want its hit rate by weekday. On red folder days its historical averages stop describing the market in front of you, which is where MRKT is built to help.

How much does Edgeful cost compared with MRKT?

Edgeful Essential is $49 a month or $399 a year, and All Access with algos is $299 a month or $2,399 a year. MRKT Pro is $49.99 a month or $499 a year with every tool included.

Does MRKT give buy and sell signals?

No. MRKT explains, it doesn't predict: no entries, exits or targets. It shows what happened, which of your markets it touches and which way the money is leaning, so you make the call knowing what's driving the tape.

Can I try MRKT for free?

Yes. The macro masterclass with certificate, economic calendar, Trump Tracker, COT report and Currency Strength Index are all free with no card, and Episode 1 of the masterclass doesn't need an account.

Which is better for prop firm traders, MRKT or Edgeful?

MRKT, if your account dies on news candles. The Pro calendar's bank ranges and Smart Money Flows tell you when to size down or sit out, which protects the daily drawdown that a single red folder release can wipe.

Your setup says where. The flows say why now.
